A National Park since 1994 (and a National Monument since 1936), Joshua Tree takes its name fro the indigenous tree that populates the area.  Both the Mojave Desert and the Colorado Desert have presences in the park. The Mojave in the western part of the park the higher and cooler of the two and features the Joshua tree forests and magnificent rock formations.
