Simply put, the Select Registry Difference is a guarantee that you will enjoy top-notch service, quality accommodations and uncommon luxury whenever you stay at one of our inns.
We’ve all seen on television, or experienced ourselves, the stereotypical and disappointing bed and breakfast experience. There was an episode of “Everybody Loves Raymond” that centered on Ray and his wife Debra’s unpleasant stay at a bed and breakfast where they had to share a bathroom with other guests, their room was disappointing to say the least, and modern amenities were lacking.
The Select Registry Difference is designed to ensure you never have to experience any of this. Every Select Registry inn must meet the organization’s criteria and pass a quality assurance inspection.
Select Registry Criteria
When an inn first contacts Select Registry about becoming a member, they are asked to complete a profile to see if they meet the basic criteria:
- The property must be fully licensed according to national, regional and local governmental requirements.
- Breakfast must be offered on the premises.
- Each guestroom or suite must contain a private bath.
- If the evening meal is not provided on the premises, fine dining or quality regional dining must be readily available in the area.
It is also recommended that the property be in operation for at least two years, the innkeepers have at least three years of documented lodging management experience, and the inn have recommendations from two Select Registry members in good standing.
A signed copy of the profile is then submitted to the Select Registry Board of Directors. The next step is proving the inn’s quality and service, which is determined through the inspection process.
The inspection is done anonymously by independent inspectors before an inn can call themselves a Select Registry inn. The inspectors make a reservation and stay at the inn for at least one night. They pay special attention to every detail from the moment they make first contact to make the reservation until they check out and leave the property after their stay.
What do the inspectors look for?
- Service while making reservations
- First impression when arriving
- Exterior appearance and condition
- Common rooms that are warm and inviting
- Guest rooms that are comfortable and have quality furnishings
- Exceptional service including a friendly and helpful staff
- Evidence that the innkeepers have paid attention to every detail
- A delicious breakfast
After the inspection is complete, the inn is contacted with the results. If the inn passes inspection, they must be approved by the Select Registry Board of Directors. If the inn fails the inspection, and it happens, the inn has an opportunity to work on the areas where they failed and request another inspection after 6 months.
What it all means
So why have we shared all of this behind-the-scenes inspection information with you? Because we want you to know what an honor it is for an inn to be able to call themselves a Select Registry Inn. Even after becoming a member, an inn must maintain their level of service and attention to detail because the inns are anonymously inspected periodically during their membership.
With an understanding of what being a Select Registry inn means, we are happy to announce two new member inns.
